Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies Awards for Internships and Activism

FALL AWARDS

CHRISTINA N. GRUBBA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
$500 annual award made to one Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies major who completes an unpaid internship. This award is intended for Junior & Senior Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies majors who complete an unpaid internship with enrollment in any of the following courses during Spring 2007:
*Field Learning Seminar, GWSS 4109
*Legislative Internship, GWSS 4505
*Directed study experience that is being done in conjunction with a GWSS internship

Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies SOCIAL JUSTICE AWARD
$250 annual award made to one undergraduate and one graduate Women's Studies major to further social justice projects. Students are encouraged to use the grant to plan activist-oriented programs (e.g. lectures, workshops, performances,etc.)

Pick up applications for these awards from the Undergraduate Advisor in Ford 419.

Prizes will be awarded by the Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies Department at the end of the Fall Semester.

HELEN HAWTHORNE HARTUNG AWARD
For best feminist writing by undergraduate student


VALATA DAKOTA FLETCHER AWARD
For best feminist writing by returning woman undergraduate student
*Cash prizes worth hundreds of dollars available*
* Entrants in writing contests must have enrolled in at least one undergraduate Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies course at the University of Minnesota in 2006 or 2007. For the Fletcher award, entrant must be a woman entering or returning to the University after being away from school 10 years or more.
* Writing contests award to up to 6 outstanding examples of feminist writing. Submit your best creative or academic writing for an award including creative fiction, essay, or poetry 5-15 pages long. Or submit a scholarly or research paper up to 30 pages. Submit two typed, double-spaced copies of entry, one copy with name, address, and phone number typed at top of first page. No name or other identification should appear on the other copy, which will be used in judging. One submission is allowed per entrant.
Deadline and notification: Prizes will be awarded at the Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies Department at the end of Spring Semester, during the Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies Recognition Event.
